The Prelude is a sports coupe produced by Japanese automaker Honda from 1978 until 2001. The two-door coupe spanned five generations and was discontinued upon the release of the fourth-generation Integra (Acura RSX in North America) in late 2001, due to its decreasing sales and popularity. In the U.S. auto market, the sixth-generation and subsequent Accord Coupes became the de facto replacement to the Prelude.

The Prelude perennial competitor has been the Toyota Celica, another straight-4-powered coupe introduced several years prior to the Prelude. Throughout the 1980s, the Prelude was challenged by the Nissan Silvia, Isuzu Impulse, Mitsubishi FTO, Mitsubishi Cordia (later the Eclipse), Ford Probe and Mazda MX-6. Out of all of these contemporaries, the Eclipse is the only one remaining in production.

In the UK, the Prelude was never considered an essential purchase by the majority of sports car enthusiasts who overlooked it for the trendier Toyota MR2 and other well-known rivals. Within the Honda range itself, the Prelude was usually overlooked for the more popular Civic and Integra models. This might be partly due to the Prelude's reportedly cramped interior, though perhaps the Prelude was also overshadowed by more prominent performance Hondas, such as the NSX. However, the Prelude is competitive in terms of style, speed and build quality, and it has achieved something of a cult status in the UK and US where demand is still high for the sportier, manual transmission versions. This demand is partly attributed to the still rising demand for customizable cars. Both the 4th and 5th generations of the Prelude emerged as popular choices for modders. Being relatively inexpensive, they have a decent amount of aftermarket/replacement parts available.

Over its life, several new technologies for Honda were pioneered on the Prelude, such as fuel injection, four-wheel steering and their Active Torque Transfer System. The Prelude was also the first Honda model to get VTEC, the company's variable valve technology.

Though the Prelude was very popular throughout the '80s, consumer interest waned in the '90s. Eventually, the Prelude was trapped in an under-$30,000 no man's land. For a sporty front-wheel-drive coupe, it was just too pricey. And it didn't have sports car looks or a premium feel. By 2000, the sport coupe market was a shadow of its former self. They dropped the Prelude without a replacement after the 2002 model year. The Prelude remains a very popular car.

If you're searching for a late-model Prelude, you'll likely be encountering the fifth and final generation, which was sold from 1997-2002.

The cold airintake such as the Honda Prelude cold airintake are styled and designed to push the limits of the vehicle engine in terms of its horsepower and torque gains. A typical Prelude cold airintake can effectively replace the often restrictive and engine restrictive stock airintake parts with more high-flow air intake kits, performance filters, and helix-bore spacers. A high performance airintake for Prelude is capable of giving the Prelude engine more air to enable it to produce more power.

What makes the cold airintake on your Prelude perform better compared to the other after market performance devices that populate the market right now. The key actually lies on the design and the construction of the said device which effectively allows cooler air to be fed to the engine. When there is cleaner and cooler air delivered to the internal combustion engine of your Prelude, the engine is able to generate and deliver more power compared to an engine that is not reinforced with a cold airintake system. The typical high-flow cold airintake which can be fitted in your Prelude will effectively increase the engine's horsepower, torque, and your vehicle's fuel economy by letting the engine breathe in more performance-enhancing oxygen for an improved air and fuel mixture in the Prelude.

The cold air intake actually operates on the principle of increasing the amount of oxygen that is available for burning the fuel. To say that the cold air intakes are helpful is an understatement. If your vehicle is not yet equipped with one, it is not yet too late to get in touch with our site to order your own functional and reliable cold air intake. Rest assured that you will find the right one for your Prelude.
