If you are considering a K&N Air Charger for your Harley-Davidson Touring Motorcycle we have put together some basic information about the Harley-Davidson touring models and the K&N Air Charger to help you make a decision.

First of all, what is an K&N AirCharger Air Charger and how will an Air Charger help your bike.  An electric air charger for use with an internal combustion engine is disclosed. The air charger includes an impeller for supplying air to the engine. A housing surrounds the impeller and has an air inlet and an air outlet adapted to couple the air supplied by the impeller to the engine. The air inlet and the air outlet are substantially axially aligned. The air charger further includes an electric motor for controllably rotating the impeller.

The 2009 Harley-Davidson touring models are all new from the ground up. Key changes for 2009 include new modular frame, swingarm, engine mounting system, and wheels and tires. With a 'ready to ride' weight of over 800 pounds Harley-Davidson touring models are massive bikes designed for all day comfort while crossing vast stretches of highway.

Many manufacturers chase the style of the day, but the new 2009 Harley-Davidson touring models incorporate major improvements while retaining the character and styling that defines Harley-Davidson motorcycles.

Harley-Davidson Chassis and Suspension

2009 Harley-Davidson Touring Chassis: The new robotically-welded touring chassis based on single-spar, rigid back bone frame combined with the new swingarm insures improved quality, versatility and stiffness. The modular design accommodates new models like the Harley-Davidson Tri-Glide Ultra Classic by changing the rear section. The new longer, wider swingarm is matched to the new frame design and is 30% stiffer than previous designs. The 2009 Harley-Davidson motorcycles are only 30 lbs. heavier but GVWR is increased by 101 lbs. Front forks have been re-tuned for a 33% increase in spring rate, the rear shock rate has been increased by 5% and damping is recalibrated at both ends.

On the road, the new Harley-Davidson suspension gobbles up bumps and pavement imperfections. The ride is comfortable, confidence-inspiring, and mid-corner bumps are barely noticeable.

Harley-Davidson Engine and Transmission

2009 Harley-Davidson Road King Classic - Pacific OceanThe standard Twin Cam 96™ has 92.60 ft. lbs. of torque at 3,500 rpm (the Harley-Davidson Screamin' Eagle models have 115 ft. lbs. At 4,000 rpm) passing is as easy as a twist of the wrist in any gear. The 6-speed transmission shifts are smooth and quiet. I was impressed with the light effort and precise shifting. I admit that I'm not accustomed to the heel shifter so I toe shifted most of the time.

The Harley-Davidson Engine Idle Temperature Management System (EITMS, A.K.A. "Parade Mode") is now rider engaged by rotating the throttle forward for several seconds. In hot weather when the motorcycle is stopped in traffic the rear cylinder's fuel and spark are shut off to reduce heat felt by the rider.

A new 68 tooth rear sprocket improves acceleration.

Harley-Davidson Tires, Wheels and Brakes

Harley-Davidson and Dunlop co-designed the Dunlop 407 bias ply tires specifically for the 2009 Harley-Davidson Touring models. The tires feature a dual compound, harder center for longer life while riding straight up and a softer compound on the edges for improved cornering traction.

How the Harley-Davidson Motorcycle was born:

Harley-Davidson, 1901 William S. Harley, age 21, completes a blueprint drawing of an engine designed to fit into a bicycle.

Harley-Davidson, 1903 William S. Harley and Arthur Davidson make available to the public the first production Harley-Davidson® motorcycle. The bike was built to be a racer, with a 3-1/8 inch bore and 3-1/2 inch stroke. The factory in which they worked was a 10 x 15-foot wooden shed with the words Harley-Davidson Motor Company crudely scrawled on the door. Arthur's brother Walter later joins their efforts.

Henry Meyer of Milwaukee, a schoolyard pal of William S. Harley and Arthur Davidson, buys one of the 1903 models directly from the founders.

Harley-Davidson, 1904 The first Harley-Davidson Dealer, C.H. Lang of Chicago, IL, opens for business and sells one of the first three production Harley-Davidson motorcycles ever made.

Harley-Davidson, 1905 On July 4th, a H-D motorcycle wins a 15 mile race in Chicago with a time of 19:02. In Milwaukee, the first full-time employee is hired.

Harley-Davidson, 1906 A new factory, measuring 28 x 80 feet, is built on the Chestnut St. site, later renamed Juneau Avenue. Staff size is increased to six full-time employees. Also, the first motorcycle catalog is produced by the Company and the nickname "Silent Gray Fellow" is used for the first time in Harley-Davidson history.

Harley-Davidson, 1907 William A. Davidson, brother to Arthur and Walter Davidson, quits his job as tool foreman for the Milwaukee Road railroad and joins the Motor Company.

Harley-Davidson Motor Company is incorporated on September 17th. The stock is split four ways between the four founders, and staff size has more than doubled from the previous year to eighteen employees. Factory size is doubled as well. Dealer recruitment begins, targeting the New England region.
